Finished reading birdsong a novel written by Sebastian Faulks. It’s a love story written against the backdrop of world war I. When the characters are great and admirable the reader is motivated to skim thru the pages easily. There are several characters in this historical fiction which are likeable. Several soldiers are shown to be of great character but that\'s obvious. The protagonist Stephen Wraysford is a soldier who goes to Amiens, France and falls in love with Isabelle. After a dangerous liaison he indicts himself in the army and fight for the allies against Germany. There is a great amount of literature about world war I and II. Those grown-up watching films on wars will like this book more. Writing is first rate, not verbose yet captivatingly structured sentences make the entire book easy to read and the writing style captures our attention for long hours. The book is a tribute to soldiers in love. Stephens is depicted as an orphan and his daemons of childhood and of lesser social bonds in real life are painful for the reader who like the character because he is a fighter. All in all a great read, recommended for historical fiction buffs.
